Availability Is Not Backup
Google and Microsoft are responsible for service availability, not data recoverability.
That means:
They keep the lights on
They protect against hardware failure
They ensure uptime of their infrastructure
What they do not guarantee is that your deleted, corrupted, or overwritten data can always be restored.
In fact, Microsoft and Google are very clear in their terms: data protection is the customer’s responsibility.
